On Monday the 21st of August the official launch of the webradiostation DJBroadcast.fm has taken place. DJBroadcast.fm is a joint venture between DJBroadcast and around fifty organisations, labels, DJ’s and producers and has come to life to broadcast non mainstream dance music; ranging from techno to soundscapes, from dub to minimal and coming to you as separate tracks or in DJ sets. The first shows are being broadcasted, while another twenty shows will be added to the schedule shortly.

Every day the programming starts at 07.00 AM with the K-Swiss Konnected Show. DJ Edo Salgado provides you with a morning sound track to get things started: a mixture of dub, singer/songwriter, deep house and future folk and everything that evolves around it, building towards a more upbeat afternoon.

The afternoon shows will be put together by a range of internationally acclaimed artists and labels and some Dutch talent as well. The New Yorker and DFA member Tim Sweeney brings his weekly Beats in Space show and fresh tunes and sets from Germany will be brought to you by the people behind Pokerflat, Moonharbour, Word and Sound, Dessous and !K7 for these labels all have their own show on DJBroadcast.fm. Off course we also rely on some Dutch people for some decent beats and sounds. Bossa Boogie , Love2party, Delsin, Bart Thimbles, Muzikism, Nuno Dos Santos, Wicked Jazz Sounds, Sound Architecture, Cinema Royal, Rotterdam Electronic Music Festival, Tempo Sessions, Rush Hour, Melon and Michel de Hey will show the world just what we have in store in our country of wooden shoes, cheese and XTC.

DJBroadcast.fm signifies a new step for DJBroadcast to becoming a wide platform for dance music. DJBroadcast.nl is a daily updated website on electronic music and night life. The bi-monthly DJBroadcast Magazine is available for free at 500 spots across the Netherlands. Furthermore DJBroadcast provides a weekly TV-show on the NFTV narrowcasting network.

DJBroadcast is part of Blueprint Media BV and has a variety of unique partnerships with companies as Sp!ts, MTV, 3voor12, K-Swiss, Free Record Shop, Bacardi, Beatport and Red Bull.

UNKLE vs. UNKLE ?

Haha … that James Lavelle - the man rom UNKLE - is unstopable with his Never, Never Land.
After a first Universal-release a few years ago, there came a second one on Global Undergound.
Followed by a 2-disc edition containing one disc full of remixes.
Now there is “Self Defence” : a 4-cd (???) project !

What does it bring ?
A brand new UNKLE track Burn My Shadow
The Never Never Land mixes come from a broad musical spectrum -
breaks, house, progressive, techno through to Hip Hop and feature
the diverse remixing talents of RJD2, SASHA, EVIL 9 and MEAT KATIE.

All in all an amazing and complete UNKLE package for an amazing price.

Looks like this is becoming a EVER EVER LAND ….. for James.
Also for me cause every UNKLE is a must have to me, despite all duplicates.
UNKLE is an addiction.

September 16th, 2006

With over 475 DJ’s and acts confirmed, most of this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event night program is completed. Buma Cultuur, the organisation behind ADE, expects 55.000 visitors of which at least 20.000 international visitors and 1800 professional participants to the conference. The world’s biggest club festival is held 19-21 October 2006 in Amsterdam and features a special opening: a tribute to synth pioneer Bob Moog.

ADE 2006 features a special program on Wednesday 18 October (one day before the conference starts) to commemorate synth pioneer Bob Moog, who passed away last year. Since his passing, artists from around the world joined forces to make a tribute CD with exclusive tracks dedicated to his pioneering work. An initiative of the ADE, Crème Organization & the Immaculate Conceptualists, the CD will be presented with a release party features live performances (expect lots of Moog - gear) by many of the featured artists. (http://www.moogmusic.com/)

On October 21st, Paradiso will host a Magik Muzik Night featuring a 5 hours set of Tiësto especially for the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). The list with the announcement of Tiësto’s performance during this Magik Muzik Night in Paradiso is complete. With the support of Progression as warm up and Cosmic Gate, Ton T.B. and Phynn in the other room this special night promises to be one of the places to be during the ADE.

I will cover the event … so stay tuned !

Charlotte Gainsbourg - 5:55 - Review

September 15th, 2006

Gainsbourg ???

Oui, Charlotte Gainsbourg is the daughter of Serge and even more interesting … Jane Birkin.
Maybe you youngsters do not know, but your hippieparents do !

Serge and Jane performed the legendaric “Je t’aime… moi non plus” record in 1969.
Jane (http://www.janebirkin.net/) times Serge (http://www.gainsbourg.org/) times that record makes CHARLOTTE. It is 69*69 …

Charlotte released a supercd with guests like Air (tsss…), Jarvis Cocker (Oasis) and Tony Allen (Kuti’s drummer !). Must have been magical moments.
But overall the songs are dripping erotic drops like there is a big waterleak !
Sex (sorry …) all over the place !
Piano … whispering voices … “Air”-ish strings … sparklin’… sound effects … the sexy French-English-accent … you can feel it is made with passion. Sounds like a movie yet to be made.

Just essential release this year.

UNDERWORLD … STILL GOING STRONG !

September 15th, 2006

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

As we speak of electronics, techno and “trance” the name UNDERWORLD should not be forgotten. After all those heavy house years they still manage to bring new and amazing stuff.
And they use the benefits of the internet ! Offering free liveperformances, cheap internet downloads the boys keep on seeking the borderline.

After 3 internet exclusive releases (”Lovely Broken Thing”, “Pizza for Eggs” and “I’m A Big Sister, And I’m A Girl, And I’m A Princess And This Is My Horse” - 5 stars only for the titles :-)) with an extra free bonusmix, new vinyl is coming up.

More groundbreaking is the upcoming soundtrack in collaboration with GABRIEL YARED - Breaking And Entering (OST). Breaking and Entering is the latest film from Academy Award-winning director Anthony Minghella. The accomplished filmmaker reunites with Jude Law – after The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain – and Juliette Binoche – who won an Academy Award for her work in Minghella’s The English Patient – to forge this intimate, questioning story about contemporary life.
Underworld and Yared managed to compose a deep atmospheric soundtrack.. No 4 to the floor-tracks here, but influences are all over the place … more info soon

Lashed Euphoria Mixed by Lisa Lashes

July 25th, 2006

Lashed EuphoriaOne of dance music’s most flamboyant characters, her music speaks for itself: anthemic, underground, and with so much energy it’s a wonder the International Atomic Agency hasn’t slapped a sanction on her.

Lisa Lashes is the biggest female DJ in the world – no contest. From her upbringing as a Jehovah’s Witness, to rocking exotic dancefloors and events for the UK Hell’s Angels, to being a patron of the Pink Ribbon Trust breast cancer charity, Lisa’s seen more of life than most.

Lisa’s Lashed events have become one of international clubland’s biggest success stories of recent years, holding mind-blowing parties in the UK, South Africa, Russia, Australia, Ibiza, and beyond. These multi-genre affairs have welcomed leading DJs from breaks, techno, hard dance, and house, including Freq Nasty, Tom Neville, Dave Angel, the Trophy Twins, Freestylers, and many more. The Lashed ethos has transformed places such as London’s SE One, the capital’s biggest licensed venue, into surreal clubbing palaces, regularly pulling crowds in their thousands.

Dark Globe - Nostalgia For The Future

July 18th, 2006

Nostalgia For The FutureWith the recent release of critically acclaimed artist albums from lostep, Sissy and The Remote and a fabulous ten year anniversary compilation, Global Underground is on a role. Capitalizing on this momentum, the next release for Global Underground’s fledgling GU Music artist imprint is Dark Globe’s much anticipated artist album Nostalgia For The Future. This eclectic release features collaborations with Amanda Ghost, Boy George, Television’s Tom Verlaine, Julie Thompson, Imogen Andrews, and more.

Much like the previous releases on the GU Music, Dark Globe carves out a style that doesn’t sound like what anyone else is currently doing musically. While the base is centered on a blend of downtempo, breaks and pop, the thing that really sets Dark Globe apart from other electronic based acts is their songwriting. These songs aren’t to be considered beats and rhythms made for the dance floor – that doesn’t do this album any justice. Rather, the songs are structured to conjure up deep human emotion. “Atoms (Featuring Boy George)” is a true electronic ballad complete with marvelous strings, piano and weepy vocals. Lead single “Break My World (Featuring Amanda Ghost)” is an epic meeting of powerful vocals and smart programming, while “For Raymond (featuring Julie Thompson)” enters lazy / hazy trip-hop territory. Instrumental tracks “Fever Electric” and “Stray Birds” are thought provoking and provide a score for the film that runs inside your head. Simply put, Nostalgia For The Future is something you need to hear.
